GPSR - General Product Safety Regulation

Welcome to our safety information page! At LAVURI® Candle & Home Decor, we're not a mass production seller BUT we are about creating beautiful candles & Home Decors and this we do passionate about ensuring your candle-burning and our Home Decor experience is safe and enjoyable. Today, let's talk about the world of LAVURI® candles, their safety and those tiny but crucial candle safety labels that need to be put on our creations.

Why should you care about Candle safety Labels, when you have not bought them at us?

In addition to giving our instructions about how to use our products safely it is also a legal requirement that any product placed onto the market in Europe needs to be safe and labelled correctly, at least since 13.12.2024.

Did you know that ~3% of house fires are caused by candles in Europe and USA? That's right – that cozy warm haven can turn into a blazing disaster in seconds, if you are not careful according to the safety label or used other Candles and our save once. Our mission is to keep your homes warm and bright, with lovely and romantic moments without the risk of turning them into an unintentional memory.

What's new about the safety labels?

Candle safety labels are your go-to source for understanding how to use and care for your candles properly to make sure, not a small thing becomes a big issue.

But what exactly should be on these labels, and how do we use them to sprinkle some safety on our handmade LAVURI® candle creations? Fear not, dear candle lovers – we've got the lowdown to ensure our LAVURI® candles are shining bright and safe.

Decoding the Safety statements.

According to the UK and EU EN15494:2019 Product Safety label standards, we are required to have a number of pieces of information which can be communicated as text statements and according to TÜB Süd we follow as well the pictograms on our candles to instruct the customer in the safe use of the product and to warn of potential hazards relating to its misuse.

This is different to CLP regulations which will be covered elsewhere.

Commonly these statements are found as Pictograms on CLP labels to save space and pictures talk international languages but can be also found on additional safety labels, dust covers or tags on or under the candle / container.

The importance of safety statements.

he mandatory safety statements are listed below. The warning triangle is mandatory, but the other statements can appear as text or (more commonly) as a pictogram for international understanding if your language is not directly visible.
Think of these statements as an instruction manual, showing our customers the most important dos and don'ts of burning their LAVURI® candle.

 Warning triangle

This warning triangle gives a visual cue to show that there is a potential hazard with the product. We are advising that this is mandatory on all candle safety labels.

It is required if the pictograms are applied to on your CLP label even if the GHS07 (Harmful) Symbol is present since, while they are very similar, they are from different sets of regulations and as such, both should be present.

NEVER LEAVE A BURNING CANDLE UNATTENDED

Going for a quick errand or leaving the room? Extinguish that flame – we don't want any unexpected happen and we wish you enjoy our LAVURI® Candles for later, together, you and the candle!

BURN CANDLES OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN AND PETS

Keep your LAVURI® candles on a high shelf or lock them away when not in use. Wagging tails and flailing arms might just turn your candle into an accident waiting to happen!

DO NOT BURN THE CANDLE ON OR NEAR ANYTHING THAT CAN CATCH FIRE

Beds, curtains

Other optional statements

There are several additional statements and associated pictograms that we add to our LAVURI® candles to give you a better piece of mind and to give more instructions to our customers on how to use our products.
Some of these pictograms are compulsory for certain types of candles.

USE a heat-resistant candle holder

Make sure that you burn your candles on a heat-resistant surface.
This is a requirement for pillar candles but not mandatory for container candles, in general it’s good at all.

Trim wick to X MM before lighting

During our testing, we have found that candles have a small amount of mushrooming when burning for a long time, a normal scientific reaction, this may be useful to add to give our customers the best candle experience they can with our product. The length on the pictogram can be changed to suit your preferences.

Trim that wick to 5-10mm before every burn to avoid mushrooming and ensure a smooth, soot-free experience.

Keep candles X CM apart

This pictogram instructs customers to keep their candles a set distance apart so that they burn evenly and safely.
